Installation Checklist
Before installing KVM you need to ensure that you meet all the requirements.
Hardware
The following servers are supported:
- IBM z13™
- IBM z13s
- IBM zEC12
- IBM zBC12
- LinuxONE™ Rockhopper
- LinuxONE Emperor
Network Hardware
The following networking features are supported:
- IBM OSA-Express5S
- IBM OSA-Express4S
- IBM OSA-Express3S (zEC12/zBC12 only) -- OSA-Express3S in KVM for IBM z does not support using VLANs or flat networks together with Open vSwitch. For IBM OSA-Express5S and IBM OSA-Express4S, you must have the appropriate microcode level. You can find this by referring to the hardware Preventive Service Planning (PSP) buckets at IBM Resource Link® (www.ibm.com/servers/resourcelink/).
A Resource Link user ID and password are required. After logging in, the PSP buckets are shown as follows:
- For the IBM z13, the PSP bucket is 2964DEVICE.
- For the IBM z13s, the PSP bucket is 2965DEVICE.
- For the IBM zEC12, the PSP bucket is 2827DEVICE.
- For the IBM zBC12, the PSP bucket is 2828DEVICE.
