If you receive an error during installation, e.g:

  1. Open your SSH client
  2. Logon as install
  3. Press CTRL + right arrow
  4. Follow the suggested steps below. FTP 9.8.1.205 is my local FTP.

Error 1 - only one path defined to the LUN

Generic.prm file utilized:

ro ramdisk_size=40000 zfcp.allow_lun_scan=0 rd.zfcp=0.0.8b00,0x50050763031B870A,0x402040b200000000 rd.znet=qeth,0.0.570a,0.0.570b,0.0.570c,layer2=1,portno=0,portname=OSAPORT ip=9.60.87.87::9.60.86.1:255.255.254.0:kvm1awb:enccw0.0.570a:none inst.repo=ftp://abassani:password@9.60.86.81/KVM

If you defined only one path to the LUN (rd.zfcp statement), it is possible you can't install the KVM, the installer will not recognize the only one path you defined during installation, and if you try to define again:

Solution: define a secondary path, then the LUN will show up:

Error 2 - Forget to copy the two .dot files

Make sure to copy the two "dot" files (.treeinfo and .discinfo). If not, you will receive an error like this one

dracut-initqueue[1434]: curl: (9) Server denied you to change to the given direc
tory
dracut-initqueue[1434]: Warning: Downloading 'ftp://anonymous:@ip_address/path/.treeinfo' failed!
dracut-initqueue[1434]: Warning: can't find installer mainimage path in .treeinf
o

Go back to the directory and copy the files (e.g. cp .treeinfo /destination)

Error 3 - FTP Path on HMC is case sensitive ;-)

The HMC make sense is upper or lower case the File location field:

Error received:

"No software was found on the source to load. Verify that you entered the correct source and that the software to be loaded is on this source." ACT36202.

Solution: double check the relative path to the ftp server. After you correct the path, you should receive the following screen, withe the correct path to generic.ins file

Error 4 - unnatended installation from scsi

Error KVMIBMPR16502.

Solution: donwload the /tmp/kvmibm_log.tar.gz file and debug the error.

Error 5 - OSM0002

Image showing message OSM0002

Not show it is a error, but in the Lab environment this is a temporary message before the KVM start the boot process.
